Finding the perfect beer for seafood

Seafood is a lot of things. It ranges from the subtle, gently baked fish to the fatty, salty richness of fish and chips. Beers are – unsurprisingly – the way to go when choosing the perfect beverage for your seafood dishes, but you’ll need to choose carefully. And here is how.

Leave room for the fish to shine

For the subtle fish dishes like baked or poached white fish and shrimps it’s important to leave room for the food to shine. So, choose beers with subtle beer flavours like a Belgian blonde or a wheat beer, and be VERY careful with bitterness.

If you’re serving richer dishes like a fish curry the bitterness level can be increased slightly. Look towards a good pilsner or maybe even a strong lager. And then there is the rich fish and chips or the luxurious calamari fritti. Try these dishes paired with a semi dark, hoppy lager they work so well together.
